TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty today announced he has issued an order to Nationwide Home Warranty (Nationwide Warranty) with home offices in New York City to cease and desist transacting the unauthorized marketing and selling of home and service warranty products in this state. Nationwide Warranty is not associated with Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. or any of its affiliates.

The Office of Insurance Regulation investigated Nationwide Warranty’s marketing and claims handling practices, and has determined that it has sold and continues to sell home warranty products in Florida without a license via its Web site.

“Nationwide Warranty is brazenly selling these products to Florida consumers without a license,” said Commissioner McCarty. “For the second time this week, I have issued an order to stop illegal, unlicensed entities like Nationwide Warranty from preying on Florida consumers.” The commissioner issued the Order to Cease and Desist to Nationwide Home Warranty on Oct. 15.

The order requires the company to cease selling these products, and also requires the company to continue to honor all policies that are in effect for the duration stated in the contract. Nationwide Warranty has 21 days to challenge this action.

The Commissioner issued a similar Order to Cease and Desist selling home warranty products to National Home Protection (National Home) also of New York City earlier this week on October 12. These two companies are not related.
