Tallahassee – An
Emergency Order issued by Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty extends the temporary suspension of the regulations regarding prescription refills and allows for Floridians to refill prescriptions before evacuating parts of the state threatened by another hurricane.
The order extends interruption of the rules for 60 days and orders health maintenance organizations and health insurers in Florida to make 30-day prescriptions available to patients regardless of the date the last prescription was filled.
This order mirrors an emergency order issued earlier this year in anticipation of Tropical Storm Arlene, and authorizes payments to pharmacies for at least a 30-day supply of medication regardless of the date the last prescription had been refilled. The rule suspension was due to expire Sept. 30, 2005 and has been extended through Nov. 18, 2005.
