Early Prescription Refills Available In Anticipation Of Wilma
Contact: Beth Scott
Tallahassee – Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty issued an Emergency Order today extending the suspension regulations limiting payment for prescriptions refills and allows Floridians to refill prescriptions in anticipation of evacuating areas threatened by Hurricane Wilma. The Commissioner acted pursuant to Gov. Jeb Bush's Executive Order # 05-219, which declares a state of emergency in Florida on Oct. 19, 2005.
The order extends interruption of the rules through Dec. 18 and mandates that health maintenance organizations and health insurers in Florida pay for prescriptions regardless of when the last prescription was filled.
This order mirrors emergency orders issued earlier this year in anticipation of tropical storms and hurricanes and authorizes payments to pharmacies for a 30-day supply of medication.
