TALLAHASSEE, Fla – Commissioner David Altmaier announced the cancellation of the public rate hearing scheduled for Wednesday, October 17, 2018, to discuss the 2019 Florida workers’ compensation rate filing by the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI). The cancellation is due to Hurricane Michael’s impact which devastated much of Florida’s Gulf Coast last week.
Commissioner Altmaier stated: “My office has an immediate responsibility to those impacted by Hurricane Michael to ensure every possible step that can be taken to protect policyholders is executed as soon as possible. While we regret not being able to hold the public hearing as scheduled, OIR will thoroughly review the NCCI rate filing and consider all public comments prior to making a decision.”
The filing proposes a statewide average premium decrease of 13.4%. The new rates would become effective January 1, 2019. Consumers and other interested parties can still submit comments regarding the NCCI rate filing by sending an email to: RateHearings@floir.com using the subject line NCCI. Comments will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on 10/26/2018.
