Tallahassee (9/9/2003) - The Florida Department of Financial Services and the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation announce the 2003 Florida Health Insurance Symposium. The event is scheduled for September 22nd and 23rd at the Biltmore Hotel, 1200 Anastasia Avenue, in Coral Gables, Florida.
Florida's Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher commented that the symposium will be timely: "Governor Bush has asked Lt. Governor Toni Jennings and me to co-chair his Task Force on Access to Affordable Health Insurance and we plan to hold the first task force meeting during the symposium. I believe the event will bring the task force members up-to-speed on the status of Florida's health insurance market and help facilitate new ideas and insights."
Florida Office of Insurance Regulation Director Kevin McCarty said the conference is timed to come up with ideas that the Legislature can weave into their health care initiatives for the coming legislative session. "We hope to give the Legislature the freshest perspectives to aid them in addressing the health insurance needs of Floridians."
Also expected at the symposium will be representatives from the Governor's office, the Florida House Select Committee on Affordable Health Care, and representatives from various segments of both the state and national health care markets.
The two-day session will feature various speakers that will both provide an overview of the Florida health insurance landscape and offer insights into improving the present system. There will also be breakout sessions looking into issues of affordability, accessibility and consumer oriented market reforms. All this will be followed by a report summarizing the findings of the symposium
A tentative schedule of events and speakers is available at www.fldfs.com. A final schedule will be emailed soon.
