Unauthorized Travel Protection Entity Ordered To Cease Business In Florida
Wednesday, September 13, 2006
TALLAHASSEE (9/13/2006) – Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty has ordered Trip Assured, Inc. (Trip Assured) and its president Edward M. Johnson to immediately cease all insurance-related activities in Florida.  Trip Assured, based in Crossville, Tennessee, has been selling travel insurance in multiple states, including Florida, without a license.
Trip Assured developed, marketed and sold trip cancellation insurance to Floridians through travel agents, cruise associations and direct to consumers from its internet website.  The trip cancellation product Trip Assured marketed was not underwritten by an authorized insurer.
"While we have had great success at tracking down and stopping unauthorized entities from transacting insurance in the state, this action proves that we have to remain vigilant," said McCarty.  "Floridians need to make sure any insurance company, agent or salesman is authorized, as these unlicensed entities and products put them at risk of grave financial harm."
