Insurance Commissioner Co-Sponsors Resolution Preserving the Role of Health Insurance Agents
– Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty today announced the NAIC has adopted a resolution
that he co-sponsored demonstrating the NAIC's commitment to preserving the role of health insurance agents. Health insurance agents are vitally important in assisting businesses and individuals to select the appropriate healthcare coverage, and in consumer protection. This resolution is passed amidst the NAIC's efforts to help the federal government define the Medical Loss Ratio as outlined in the Affordable Care Act.
"With the passage of federal healthcare reform, the healthcare insurance system has become even more complex," stated Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty. "Although it is not considered a 'medical expense,' trained healthcare agents must remain an integral part of the health insurance process by helping businesses and families tailor healthcare insurance plans to meet their individual needs."
Commissioner McCarty is the Vice-President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). He co-sponsored this resolution along with regulators from more than two dozen other states. Members of the NAIC have gathered in Seattle, Washington, for the NAIC's Summer Conference to discuss national insurance issues affecting the member states.
